Wedding costs are the industry's worst-kept secret and least-published number — every venue says "it depends," and every family plans blind until the first quote lands. So here are the actual numbers: national survey data, published per-plate rates, and the honest bands, so you can walk into any venue conversation — including ours — already knowing the map.
The headline numbers, 2025–26
India's average wedding now runs ₹29.6–39.5 lakh depending on whose survey you read (WeddingWire's newlywed survey vs WedMeGood's annual report — cite both, trust the range). Go destination and the average climbs to ₹58 lakh — a roughly 40% premium — though destination guest lists are smaller: 280 guests on average, versus 420 for hometown weddings. The trade is fewer people, better weekend.
The destination segment itself grew about 35% in 2025, with a quarter of Indian weddings now destination events, and nearly 90% of them held within India. Which is precisely why venue prices in the marquee cities keep climbing — and why the smart money has started looking at cities like this one.
Where the money goes
First Resort's 2025-26 destination research breaks the budget down like this:
| Component | Share | What it means at ₹40 lakh |
|---|---|---|
| Venue + accommodation | ~45% | ₹18 lakh |
| Catering | ~18% | ₹7.2 lakh |
| Decor | ~12% | ₹4.8 lakh |
| Outfits & jewellery | ~10% | ₹4 lakh |
| Entertainment & logistics | ~8% | ₹3.2 lakh |
| Photography & film | ~7% | ₹2.8 lakh |
The strategic insight is in row one: venue, rooms and food are ~60% of everything. You cannot decor-discount your way to a smaller budget; you optimise the wedding by optimising where it happens.
The component reality check
Catering. Published Bhopal venue rates (WedMeGood, 2026 listings): ₹950–2,500 per plate veg, ₹800–4,500 with non-veg — Jehan Numa Retreat sits at ₹2,100/₹2,400 for calibration. Metro five-stars run ₹3,000–6,000+; premium destination hotels load to ₹15,000 with logistics. At 280 guests × 6 events over three days, this line compounds faster than any other.
Rooms. The standard 150-guest configuration is ~75 rooms, double occupancy, two nights — the packaged assumption used across the industry. In Goa that block costs ₹18,000–52,000 per guest at four-star-to-premium properties; in Jaipur, four-stars run ₹15–25k per room-night and palaces ₹25k–1.5 lakh. Bhopal's equivalent inventory prices dramatically lower — and here's the structural quirk: most Bhopal venues hold only 30–84 rooms, so a 150-guest wedding is effectively a full buyout — the entire property becomes yours, which at marquee destinations is a ₹5–15 lakh premium you'd pay on top.
Decor. ₹5–10 lakh total for a well-done mid-size wedding; designer productions ₹15–20 lakh+. Per-event benchmarks at four/five-star destination venues: mehndi ₹3–9L, ceremony ₹5–25L, reception ₹6–20L. A venue with good bones — lawns ringed by real trees, a lake, a pillarless hall — needs visibly less of this line than a banquet box that must be disguised.
Photography. ₹1.5–5 lakh gets a good two-to-three-day destination team; ₹4–10 lakh is typical at premium properties. Add ₹10–50k travel and ₹10–30k drone. One argument for marrying an hour from a major airport: your dream Delhi photographer's travel line shrinks to a domestic hop.
Planner. 8–15% of vendor spend at the luxury end, or flat fees from ₹3.5–4 lakh (50 guests) to ₹7–8 lakh (150+). At Giovanni Village a named planner comes with the wedding — one of the quieter line-item deletions of an estate that runs its own events.
City versus city: the same wedding, four price tags
150 guests, two days, comparable production quality:
| Destination | Realistic band | The premium buys |
|---|---|---|
| Udaipur | ₹50–70 lakh (palaces to ₹3 cr) | The Lake Pichola postcard |
| Jaipur | ₹30–70 lakh (avg city spend ₹73L — India's highest) | Palace brands, but peak-date scarcity |
| Goa | ₹45L–1.2 cr (luxury ₹1.4 cr+) | Beach, at beach prices |
| Bhopal / MP | ~₹25–45 lakh | The same lawns and rooms — plus a tiger reserve |
The gap isn't quality — a lawn, a hall, a suite and a biryani cost what they cost to produce anywhere. The gap is land prices and brand scarcity. Bhopal's connectivity (≈20 daily flights, the Delhi Vande Bharat) removes the traditional tier-2 penalty of "how will everyone get there," which is the full case we've made here.
What we'll tell you that a rate card can't
Every Giovanni Village wedding is quoted to its guest count, season, room block and function list — because those four variables move the number more than any menu upgrade. What the estate structurally deletes from the comparison sheet: venue-space rental across eleven venues, the planner's fee, guest transport between functions (there is none — everything's inside the gates), and most of the decor's job (the forest was here first).
Send us your dates, guest count and function list and you'll get a real itemised proposal — the same component structure as this article, with your numbers in it. Then hold it against any city on that table. That's a comparison we win often enough to have written this guide.
